Inspiration
I had been playing around with doing a future story set with General Hospital’s next generation in early 2008. At the same time, I was doing a reread of Nora Roberts’ Sanctuary, a novel in which three grown children deal with the legacy of their mother’s abandonment. Their mother took off two decades earlier when they were young children with no word or explanation. I can’t remember now why I thought the same type of story would be interesting to write, but I decided to give it a go.
Timeline
Tangle picks up the General Hospital universe on April 4, 2008. The infamous day of the warehouse shooting where Michael ended up in a coma, Jason and Elizabeth broke up, and….nothing else changed. Michael woke up, he’s fantastic, Carly still sleeps with Sonny when the mood strikes her, etc. The only ramification was Jason and Elizabeth walking away from each other again. Oy.
So Johnny and Nadine are still around. Jax and Carly are together, Sonny’s a raving mess, etc. A lot of the backstory will be filled in. Lucky and Sam are dating at the time. This story is set in 2024, but I’m dealing with GH’s universe in 2008 when I start the story.
Oh, and Patrick and Robin’s eldest child is a boy simply because I started this story long before the gender was revealed and I don’t care to change it now.
Fiction Graveyard
Why did I abandon this story just at the crucial moment? I didn’t like it. I hadn’t plotted it out, it’s weird in areas and I ended up really disliking the way I dealt with Elizabeth’s disappearance. And since, thanks to Huma who kept goading me with ideas (all of which I’m keeping, haha) and making me fall in love with the character of Amalia even more, I’ve keeping those ideas. But I want to be able to write those subsequent stories from a place of strength. So I’m chucking Tangle and giving you Feels Like Home, this fall. 😛
