I don’t like too much time to pass between posts, and since I didn’t end up doing Flash Fiction this weekend, I wanted to check in and let you know how things are going. My writing guru, Lani Diane Rich over at Chipperish, started a sprint community livestream on Saturdays. This was the first week, and I tuned in 10 AM to see how it would go. It’s been a really long time since I’ve been able to write for more than hour at a time thanks to the TMJ, but I was hopeful that a community sprint and the opportunity to work alongside someone who’s been so influential in my writing career might inspire me.
YOU GUYS.
We wrote for four hours, from 10-2 and I WROTE 8000 words. I finished Chapter 84 of Mad World, then wrote a SECOND CHAPTER. In fact, I wasn’t quite done Chapter 85 when the sprints ended so I WROTE FOR ANOTHER HALF HOUR. I wrote for more than four hours for the first time since maybe December when I was working on the FMT first draft. Not only did I wrote a lot and make some serious progress, it was fun. I lost myself in some of the scenes and felt that old energy coming back.
I was worried it might be a fluke, so I sat down today to test it. I thought I would write an hour for Karma, the December project for the Liason Haven, and then three for Mad World.
I wrote 10,000 words today.
I wrote 18k in the last two days.
I wrote four more scenes for Karma and TWO MORE CHAPTERS for Mad World. I literally, in one weekend, put myself right back on track to finishing MW’s first draft AND Karma by the end of October. I think making this kind of progress was worth sacrificing Flash Fiction this weekend. Next weekend, I’m going to incorporate the flash fiction into the community sprint so I can do Mad World and Flash Fiction at the same time. I hope to do the same on Sunday.
I hope that I can get back and track and keep enjoying writing like I have the last two days. It’s felt fun again, and I absolutely adore the material I wrote for MW today, particularly a really good Jason/Carly scene.
I’ll keep you guys in the loop on Twitter, so check the feed (I also embed my TL in the sidebar). Have a great week!
